I'm Melissa Windham, and I'd like to show you some of my
artist dolls and restoration work. First, let me tell you a little about myself.
I've worked behind the camera as a make-up artist and wardrobe stylist for television,
film and still photography for the past 17 years here in the Detroit area. Before that, I
worked as an actress and model. The magic that can be created by make-up has always
fascinated me. When I did my own make-up for acting jobs, other actors liked what I did
for myself so much, they'd ask me to do their make-up, too. Then directors began to
request me on the set as their make-up artist. I love having the opportunity to make other
people look their most attractive. |
Before I began my career in
make-up, I received a B.A. in Communications from the University of Michigan. My parents,
both artists, were always an incredible inspiration. My dad was a well-known painter in
watercolor who taught me so much about the subtleties of shading, shape and color. My mom,
a wonderful seamstress, taught me to sew. Her couturier designs were a constant source of
excitement in our home.
After college, I drew botanical illustrations in pastel for Florist
Transworld Delivery magazine, which helped hone my detail skills. My drawings of flowers
and birds were featured in the home furnishings department of Jacobson's, a swank
mid-western store. Working in mixed media, I learned even more about how color, shadowing
and texture can work together to make a flat surface come alive with the appearance of
multiple dimensions.
